Answers to common HelmVue questions—setup, connectivity, logbooks, maintenance, crew compliance, and data security.

HelmVue is a vessel compliance and maintenance platform designed to keep operational records, plan maintenance, and manage crew compliance in one place. For a full overview, see our Features.

Yes. HelmVue is designed for vessel operators and fleet managers who need consistent records and visibility across vessels. You can invite users and control access based on role and responsibilities.

Access is controlled with role-based permissions, so crew members only see what’s relevant to their duties. For more detail, see our Security Policy.

HelmVue is a cloud-based service and requires an internet connection (e.g., satellite/4G) to access the platform. Maintaining a secure and reliable connection onboard is part of the shared responsibility model described in our Security Policy.

HelmVue supports digital logbooks and compliance records (including Oil Record Book and Garbage Record Book workflows) alongside maintenance and vessel documentation. See our Features for the current module list.

Maintenance can be scheduled by time or running hours, assigned as tasks, and tracked through completion. This helps reduce missed maintenance and creates a clear history for inspections and handovers.

HelmVue is built to support compliance workflows with clear records and exports where available (for example, Oil Record Book exports). Requirements can vary by Flag State and inspector—if you have a specific export format in mind, contact us.

HelmVue can store crew profiles, certifications, and compliance records such as hours of rest. Some organizations may also store additional sensitive details for safety workflows. See details in our Privacy Policy.

You can upload and manage certificates and track expiries so you can stay ahead of renewals. This helps keep crew and vessel documentation inspection-ready.

Yes—HelmVue can be used to record and review hours of rest as required by maritime standards (e.g., STCW/MLC). Your company’s policies and flag requirements may dictate how records are reviewed and signed off.

Yes. HelmVue uses role-based access control so only the right people can view or edit sensitive data. See our Security Policy for more.

HelmVue encrypts data in transit (TLS 1.2+) and encrypts stored data at rest (AES-256). We also use security controls like HSTS and strict access policies. See our Security Policy for details.

HelmVue runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our infrastructure is designed for high availability and uses managed services for database and file storage. See “Infrastructure and Hosting” in our Security Policy.

HelmVue uses a secure identity provider for logins and enforces role-based access control (RBAC) in the application so users only access data relevant to their role. More detail is in the Security Policy.

If you suspect unauthorized access or want to report a vulnerability, notify us immediately. You can reach our team via the contact details in the Security Policy, or use the general Contact page.
